Rofe Bemboka House and Gallery

The brief was for a house and gallery that could be used to showcase a large collection of Australian pottery, books and paintings.  The building needed to be placed high on the block with a broad northerly face to capitalize the river and mountain views and e sheltered from the wind.   From the road the building presents a modest single level facade with a welcoming verandah and glazed entry to link the home, gallery and deck, and connects to the partially buried lower level bedrooms, storage areas and northerly garden via an open stair.

The clients wanted a house that was modern, sympathetic to the rural/coastal location and provide a high level of interest in shapes, external materialsfinishes and extensive use of glass in the living areas to provide a light and airy feel.

The house was to take advantage of the northerly/westerly views, and include external living spaces that provided the balance of sun and wind protection, while incorporating the highest possible solar passive capability.

 Freedman

Celebrating the laid back beach lifestyle at Tathra, this house also maintains high levels of privacy for its owners from omnipresent neighbours.

The family requested an open plan house that would cater for large parties and lots of visitors.  When the large cavity sliding doors are open the upstairs living area expands to open out onto the undercover living space.  Upstairs is  predominately for the parents’ use  while downstairs is the domain of the two children and their dog.  The family  room  downstairs can be closed off from the rest of the house by sliding a  timber  panel screen  across the staircase.

Freedman

A dark  stained marine ply feature wall extends from the entry through the living areas and out to  the decks.  Visually it anchors  the house onto the site providing a dynamic focus that links the inside with the outside.  Other timber elements include yellow stringy floors, decks, custom seating and external cladding in ironbark.  Colorbond flat sheet and corrugated steel provides clean and sharp lines externally.

The internal framing uses structural steel posts, beams and bracing to maintain strength in this high wind area.  Citi coloured colorbond steel flat sheet, secured  with metal rivets, provides a simple clean and sharp look alongside the colorbond corrugated steel sheet walls.  Colorbond steel roof with large custom built gal steel gutters double as a fascia.  Colorbond cappings  are used extensively  around  the timber and plywood walls both inside and out. The corrugated gal steel water tank is located boldly adjacent to the front door with galvanized chain at the front porch supporting the entry cover way.

Jack
Jacks House This  eye-catching home takes the notion of coastal living very seriously, with a casual atmosphere and plenty of room for entertaining. Designed for a couple looking to enjoy this home right up until their twilight years. All four levels are linked with ramps both internal and external, surrounding an internal garden. Undercover golf buggy parking was part of the design as the block  adjoins  the  local    golf  course.

Rogers

This grand home is simply stunning.  Sweeping curves are a design feature, right through to the bedrooms.  Colorbond roofing and cladding add a contemporary touch, floor to ceiling windows bring the outdoors in, providing the owners with a connection with the surrounding bushland.  A smooth arc in the kitchen bench continues the play on curves.

 Wheatley
Wheatley HouseA light filled well ventilated home taking in the surrounding ocean and bush views. High ceilings open plan living with louvre windows. 3 skylights luminate the central living area. The beautiful Balinese inspired ensuite is the icing on the cake. All this and built on a steep and difficult site.
